Michael has been a consistent member of our CCC team, his willingness to fill in where needed and his infectious smile and laughter provide much needed warmth.
Here are his words:
“In July 2012, I found the Castro Country Club. Overcome by feelings of loss, shame and anxiety, the CCC showed me compassion, love, and understanding. The fellowship introduced me to a new way of life, and provided me the space to live. It is more than a place for meetings and socializing, it is a safe space. What I found at the club was beyond my expectations, a community of my fellows. After losing my job, I began volunteering at the CCC and what started as a way to keep busy quickly proved to be lifesaving. Volunteering helped me overcome bouts with depression and has given me purpose in a time of deep despair. I am proud and thankful that I have been able to give so freely what has been given to me and I plan to continue that, so that the newcomer can find it as well.” -Michael Bergeron
